Dimensions:
94 x 93 stitches
Approx. finished size 6.5" x 6.5"
Size to cut fabric 16.5" x 16.5"
Anchor Stranded Cotton as listed in colour key below, stitched on 28 count
white linen using 2 strands for cross-stitch and 1 strand for backstitch.
Instructions
- Find centre of fabric by folding
it in half both ways; mark with thread or washable marker.
- Using 18-inch (46cm) strands,
separate plies. Place the required number of plies (2) side by
side and thread needle.
- Determine starting point by
finding centre of design (marked by side arrows on chart). Begin
stitching at this point.
- Place fabric in hoop. Pull
the thread through the fabric leaving 1" extending on the wrong
side. Hold in place so that the thread is overcast by first
stitches taken. Never knot the thread.
- Work all the stitches in an area
of the same colour at one time.
- Work each stitch according to
Diagram A, crossing each "X" in the same direction.
- To end thread, weave through
several stitches on the wrong side. Cut end close to work.
- Work all cross-stitch first,
then do backstitching (Diagram B).
Tips
 | If thread twists while
stitching, let needle dangle so that thread unwinds. |
 | Mark off sections of stitches on
the chart as you work. |
 | Prevent threads shadowing
through on the front of the project by ending threads, rather than
making long stitches on the back of the work. |
 | Work from left to right.
Avoid jumping from one area of design to another, as it is easy to
miscount. |
Special Instructions
 | Position baby's name, birth date
and birth weight on the lines indicated on the chart and backstitch
information in Anchor 382 |
