Ruching, Marbling, Sewing & Pegging

  1. Take a piece of cord twice the length of the fabric.
Different thicknesses give variations in size of pattern.
  2. Tie ends of cord together in a knot and place it along the edge of the dry fabric. Roll fabric around it, with the knot protruding from one end.
  3. Pass the knotted end through the looped end and pull tightly to ruhe the fabric.
  4. Tie a knot in the cord to hold the fabric firmly in place.
  5. Follow dyeing method B.
  1. Crush dry fabric tightly to form a ball and bind with string or elastic bands.
  2. Put tied ball into dye and squeeze gently.
  3. Follow dyeing method B
  1. Mark out design onto fabric.
  2. Using strong thread, follow design with small running stitches (starting in the centre of spirals). Pull thread tightly to gather fabric and tie off. (Alternatively, use a large safety pin to weave in and out of the fabric, following the drawn line. Gather fabric tightly into pin).
  3. Follow dyeing method B
  4. After rinsing, leave fabric to dry completely before unpicking stitches and wash off.

  1. Fold fabric in concertina pleats to form a long thin strip.
  2. Clip Bulldog clips at intervals along strip, either straight or at angles.
  3. Follow dyeing method B
