Swirls, Tying, Stripes & Circles

  1. Place fabric flat on a covered surface. Pinch up centre and twist into a spiral.
  2. Secure shape with 2 elastic bands, forming 4 sections.
  3. Prepare dye solution as Step 3, dyeing method A but using 500ml warm water.
  4. Using a brush, paint dye liberally onto fabric, pushing colour into folds. For multi-coloured effect, paint each section with a different colour dye.
  5. Turn fabric over and repeat. Place fabric in plastic bag, seal and leave overnight.
  6. Follow steps 6 & 7, dyeing method A
  1. Tie grains of rice, buttons or stones into fabric at random, binding tightly with string or elastic bands.

  1. Pinch centre of fabric and pull up into a cone shape.
  2. Using string or elastic bands, tie at intervals from the top down.

  1. Lay fabric flat.
  2. From wide edge, fold into concertina pleats to form a thin strip.
  3. Bind tightly at regular intervals with string or elastic bands.
